About: The Battle of the Blacksmiths is a premier, fast-paced blacksmithing competition held during the annual That Beats Banagher Festival in Banagher County Offaly. Some of the stuff they will be doing is showcasing traditional forging skills, bog iron smelting and intense competitions like the “Golden Anvil” challenge. Set along the banks of the Shannon, the ring of anvils and roar of forges once again drew a strong crowd, eager to watch traditional skills tested under pressure. One of the festival’s main attractions will be in Banagher’s Fire Festival, a fusion of Forged in Ireland and the Furrance festival to Showcase remarkable blacksmithing and smelting skills to the public. With up to 40 expert blacksmiths participating attendees can witness fascinating demonstrations, workshops will be held over the weekend, offering attendees a hands – on opportunity to delve into the art of smelting.
