Members of the Banagher Brontë Group are in for a great treat on Monday 7th October. A lecture by Ann Dinesdale and Sharon Wright entitled The Brontës in Bricks and Mortar will be given in the Crank House, Banagher at 5 p.m. sharp, (please note time). Ann Dinesdale is Principal Curator of the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth and Sharon Wright is an author and journalist who penned the acclaimed book ‘Mother of the Brontës’ in 2019.

The talk will be followed by an interval for dinner in Flynn’s restaurant. Persons wishing to attend should book with Flynns at 05791 51312. A number of tables have been reserved near the piano.

Afterwards  a miscellany of music, song and words will be presented in the Back Lounge of  Corrigans’ Corner House pub at 8 p.m.  The event is in honour of Arthur Bell Nicholls, Charlotte Brontë and Mary Anna Bell Nicholls. The presentation will include music and songs familiar to the Brontë family and readings from the Brontë literature. Four talented musicians from Tullamore will provide the music: Aidan Barry on guitar, Siobhán Butler on vocals and keyboard, Siobhán Godley on flute and Frank Kelly (of Lusmagh) on accordion.

This annual event has been held for over thirty years and brings together a great gathering of local writers who have created a magnificent collection of original poems. If you wish write a new poem or read an old favourite. Everybody welcome.

Launch of Martina Devlin’s new book Charlotte in Crank House by Nigel West. Nigel will give us an update on the Bronte Birthplace Thornton project and his own connections with Hill House, (Charlotte’s Way) and launch Charlotte, which is mostly located in Hill House.

Martina Devlin will then read from her new work.

Sunday 8 12.45 p.m. Annual laying of wreath in Saint Paul’s graveyard for Arthur and Mary Anna Bell Nicholls after midday service.  The community at Saint Paul’s have always accorded us a warm welcome and those wishing to attend the service are free to do so. We extend a warm welcome to the new rector, Rev. John McGinty.
